McLeod Plantation Historic Site
The McLeod Plantation Historic Site is an important landmark that was first established in 1851. Today, the restored plantation house and surrounding grounds provide a glimpse into the daily life of slaves. It is a member of the International Sites of Conscience, and is dedicated to preserving the history of enslaved people. The 37-acre site is home to the McLeod Oak, which is believed to be 600 years old.
Once a working plantation, the McLeod Plantation was used by British General Sir Henry Clinton during the American Revolution. During the Civil War, the plantation served as the headquarters of the 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. After the war, it was a base for free African Americans. After the war, the plantation housed a freedmen's bureau. Today, it is a museum, with exhibits that illustrate the history of the enslaved people.

The Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is another must-see when visiting Charleston. This historic site was built by prominent family members before the American Revolution and opened its doors to the public in 1870. The gardens are particularly beautiful, and the plantation is renowned for its gardens.
